Michigan Association of Home Inspectors.
What is the purpose of Michigan's new and growing home inspection organization?
There is every indication that the home inspection profession will soon be regulated in Michigan. Experience in other states warns us that legislation done without input from the industry can be a disaster. We must be heard in Lansing! However, the each of the old organizations each represent only a fraction of the inspectors in Michigan. Further, some legislators feel that the national groups are each "pushing their own agenda". Whether or not this is true, even the perception of conflicting goals reduces each group’s ability to represent the profession as a whole. Inspectors need a unified, independent voice.
The Michigan Association of Home Inspectors (MichAHI) was founded early in 2005 to fill this need. It is not a part of any national organization. It’s primary purpose is to develop State-wide consensus among inspectors, and to take that consensus to the seats of power in Lansing.
Does MichAHI exclude members of other organizations?
No. All inspectors are welcome.
Is this an attempt to steal members from other organizations?
No. MichAHI membership should be seen as a supplement to, not an substitute for, your current affiliation.
Does MichAHI provide other services, like educational seminars?
Not at this time. Right now, our efforts are concentrated on legislative issues. However, the organization belongs to the members, and its future activities will be determined by the members.
How is MichAHI organized?
We have a set of bylaws, a copy of which is available to any member on request. We are a non-profit Michigan Corporation.
Is MichAHI a credential-granting organization?
No. Organizations grant credentials to certify to the public that their members have a certain level of experience, knowledge or education. While this is a worthwhile activity, it is outside the present purpose and scope of MichAHI.
How much does it cost to join?
Full voting membership is 100 per year. Renewing members from 2005 pay only $75. Non-voting membership is also available, see the member application on this site.
